BetterZip lets you open archives without immediately extracting them. This is much faster and you don't have to remove the extracted files and folders after using them. The currently supported archive formats are: ZIP, TAR, GZip, BZip2, ARJ, LZH, ISO, CHM, CAB, CPIO, RAR, 7-Zip, DEB, and RPM. Such archives usually have these file extensions: .zip, .jar, .war, .ear, .sar, .par, .wsr, .rar, .cbz, .cbr, .tar, .tgz, .tbz, .gz, .bz, .bz2, .cpio, .cpgz, .7z, .lha, .lzh, .arj, .iso, .chm, .cab, .deb, .rpm. The list of supported formats will very likely grow in the near future. BetterZip can open, extract, and create password protected zip files that are compatible with PKZip2 or WinZip's AES256 encryption. Whenever BetterZip needs a password for an operation a panel will drop down and ask for the password. BetterZip can split archives into multiple volumes. Add files and folders to existing archives, update or rename files already in the archive, move files around within the archive, and delete files and folders from an archive. Create new folders inside the archive. Easily search for files and folders by name inside the archive. BetterZip lets you create "clean" archives without the Mac specific files (Finder configuration or resource forks) to happily exchange with Windows or Linux users.

Floppies and tapes can be exchanged with other systems (on Unix, use raw devices). The tar archive manipulation code is based on John Gilmore's public domain tar program. As of version 4.1, "tar" has been renamed "MacTar" and maintenance has been taken over by Joe Strout.
Download Home Page unace 2.5 for Mac OS X is a port of the commandline tool unace, which is the uncompressing part of the excellent (but yet) closed source windows compression software WinACE. Its hard to beat compression results made it the preferred tool of many people on the net.

Home Page 1. What is this This is a very simple interface to the rar binary. And RAR is a popular compression format in the PC-side-of-the-life. Keep in mind that the RAR format won't support OSX-specific flags (ie, resource fork). For advanced options, use the rar binary in CLI mode itself, or look for other interfaces. 2. Usage Use the Preferences window to adjust some settings (password if needed, segments if needed, etc.) and then drop onto Rarify's icon your file(s)/folder(s) in order to compress them. 3. Requirements & Installation Rarify will run under OS X 10.4 and 10.5, both Intel and PPC architectures. 1. Drop Rarify onto your favorite location. Due to licensing issues, I prefer you install the rar binary manually yourself (so you can read its readme, read its license, purchase a copy or whatever you wish). 2. Install if needed the rar binary. To do so: -Go to http://www.rarlabs.com/ downloads section. -Choose your favorite download (usually, the newer version of the rar binary for OS X) and download it. -Unpack. -Make a new Finder window ("Apple + N"). Type "Apple + Shift + G". Type "/usr/local/bin". -Now, copy the unpacked "rar" binary file onto the "/usr/local/bin" window. Authenticate as administrator if needed. If you prefer not doing such a thing (!), you can copy as well the rar binary to the following destination (instead of "/usr/bin" or "/usr/local/bin"): -Rarify/Contents/Resources.. 3. You can instead use the "Update RAR binary..." menu item under the application menu and these steps will be done automagically by Rarify.

Home Page The Unarchiver is a much more capable replacement for "BOMArchiveHelper.app", the built-in archive unpacker program in Mac OS X. The Unarchiver is designed to handle many more formats than BOMArchiveHelper, and to better fit in with the design of the Finder. It can also handle filenames in foreign character sets, created with non-English versions of other operating systems. I personally find it useful for opening Japanese archives, but it should handle many other languages just as well. Supported file formats include Zip, Tar-GZip, Tar-BZip2, Rar, 7-zip, LhA, StuffIt (not really) and many other more or less obscure formats.
Home Page I dislike .pkg files on Mac OS X. I don't like how they can touch any part of the system they want. Many times the installer files are useless anyway; all they do is make sure an app is installed in /Applications, for example, which I can handle myself, thank you very much. So this utility simply unpacks all the files in a package. Very handy, and GNU GPL free too! Note: Unpkg does not touch you system at all except for the folder where the unpacking takes places. Because it does not move files around in your system (on purpose), you should not use unpkg to install, say, incremental OS X updates. But if you just need to get a kext from that package, for example, then unpkg is exactly what you need.
Home Page UnRarX is a Mac OS X Cocoa application that allows you to expand rar archives and restore corrupted or missing archives using par2.

For .uue (uuencoded) files. For use with NewsWatcher.
Parent Directory For.uue files. Merges files, decodes and encodes. A fat binary. You can select an uuencoded image file in NewsWatcher, choose "Extract Binaries" and have the image decoded and fed to a program like JPEGView for immediate display on your screen...all in one step.
Parent Directory Yet Another Decoder is a simple droplet designed to decode MIME Base64 (including AppleSingle and AppleDouble), BinHex, MacBinary (including MacBinary III), and uuencoded files that are dropped upon it. It assumes that all segments of the original encoded document have been concatenated into the file being decoded, and that the segments are in order. This is intended as a helper application for decoding usenet binary attachments. It is not a general purpose decoder. However, it does handle most usenet binaries fairly well, and it can deal with multiple attached files.
A utility program to decode yEnc encoded files, such as are used on usenet newsgroups.

Home Page ZipIt is a Macintosh program that zips and unzips archives in a format fully compatible with PKZip for the IBM and zip implementations on other systems. A zip archive is any file that ends with the extension '.zip'. The zip format is popular on the IBM, and is widely used as an interplatform compression format. In addition, ZipIt can compress Macintosh applications and documents without losing any of their data. ZipIt is best used when transferring compressed documents to and from other computer types. Some examples are: text files, TIFF pictures, Excel databases, and QWK message packets, to name just a very few. Note that files that end in '.Z' or '.gz' are not ZipIt files, even though Netscape may give them a ZipIt icon.
Home Page Zippist helps you to make zip files. You can compress files and folders.
